On Monday, August 11, Select VoiceCom's (SVC) 10th-floor lobby came alive as colorful banderitas (fiesta flags) danced overhead, setting the stage for a week-long celebration of Filipino culture and tradition. By Friday at 5 AM, the same space was buzzing once again, and this time with the unmistakable FriYay vibe and the comforting aroma of local favorites.
This year's Filipino Culture Week, held in celebration of Buwan ng Wika, culminated in an extra special FriYay that not only wrapped up the festivities but also celebrated a proud milestone: SVC's Great Place to Work® Certification for the third consecutive year.
A Week of Games and Laughter
The workplace transformed into a playground of tradition, with classic Pinoy games uniting teams. From the excitement of Roletang Pinoy to the clever banter of Pinoy Henyo and the nostalgic Pinoy Games Relay (which included jackstone, pick-up sticks, and takyan), each day was filled with laughter and smiles, showcasing just how much everyone enjoyed these moments of connection and fun together.
Winners proudly took home prizes like sacks of rice, tote bags, tumblers, and baseball caps, while everyone walked away with renewed energy and shared memories. By week's end, the office radiated with the spirit of togetherness that makes SVC proudly Pinoy.
FriYay with a Fiesta Spread
A Filipino feast marked the grand finale fit for a town plaza. Employees lined up for favorites like pork barbecue with puso (hanging rice), soft and fluffy puto and kutsinta, and Cebu’s beloved masi (glutinous rice balls). The familiar aroma of charcoal-grilled barbecue and the sweet scent of kakanin made the lobby feel like home, bringing everyone closer together.
More Than a Celebration
Beyond the food and fun, this FriYay carried a more profound message: our culture and people make SVC a world-class workplace. The Great Place to Work® certification added pride to the day, proving that recognition follows when an organization values its people.
"This week showed us that while we work hard, we also celebrate our roots and identity," one employee said. "It's nice that we have the chance to do it here at SVC."
Final Notes
As Filipino Culture Week ended, what lingered was more than the aroma of barbecue or the joy of winning prizes. It was a reminder of who we are and what we value. The week's festivities brought employees together not just to play games or share food, but to celebrate tradition, strengthen bonds, and reflect on the culture that unites us.
