Basketball captured the hearts of Filipinos for decades. It’s the only game played in every corner of the country, from the bustling city courts to makeshift hoops in rural and remote barangays. The game has carved itself as a part of Filipino culture, and it’s not just a sport for us—it’s a way of life!
On March 19, 2023, Select VoiceCom’s SVC Bulldogs basketball club kept this Filipino pride alive in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City. The club organized Project 15: Ball of Fame Basketball Boot Camp for aspiring young athletes in the area. Together, SVC Bulldogs and these young players brought the court alive with their passion for the sport. The club members even got a chance to play basketball with the adult residents there.
Before starting the game, the SVC Bulldogs made sure the young participants had the energy to play by filling their stomachs with delicious lunches. The club members also geared up the players with essential sports gear like balls, water jugs, face towels, and socks. This boot camp isn’t just about giving back to the community. SVC initiated this ball game to promote healthy and active living among the youth.
Basketball is not just a sport; it helps keep our bodies and minds healthy. The SVC Bulldogs showed the young players of Barangay Mabolo how important it is to stay active and fit by playing basketball. As they played their hearts out on the court, the young participants learned not only how to thrive in the game but also a valuable lesson in life—the essence of teamwork, sportsmanship, and discipline.
Setbacks are something we all have to face in our lives, not just in a basketball game. But what matters is how we face each challenge and overcome everything that comes our way. During their friendly matches, the youngsters of Barangay Mabolo realized that a defeat is not a failure but an opportunity to learn, grow, and come back stronger than ever.
But more than the art of resilience, the young players learned to push their limits to achieve their goals, whether on the basketball court or in their respective lives. They may face a tough opponent or miss an important opportunity, but they will bounce back to continue following their dreams. SVC is proud to have been a part of this initiative.
