The country is expected to face at least two to three typhoons this July and more in the coming months due to the potential La Niña event, as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). To prepare for tropical storms, Select VoiceCom partnered with Lapu-Lapu City Environment and Natural Resources Office to strengthen the coast of Barangay Sta. Rosa in Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City.
On June 30, 2024, our #SuccessDrivenTeam SOAR Outdoor and Recreation Club spearheaded a mangrove planting activity in the area. SVC volunteers planted 150 Ceriops Tagal seedlings, also known as spurred or Indian mangrove. This green initiative helped strengthen the coastal communities of Barangay Sta. Rosa by providing natural solutions to enhance their resilience against extreme weather conditions.

Mangroves are unique trees that thrive in coastal areas. When their seedlings are planted and mature, mangroves develop sturdy trunks and dense roots that absorb the impact of storm surges and reduce wave heights. These natural barriers protect coastal communities from erosion and flooding. Planting mangroves along the coast of Barangay Sta. Rosa helps save lives and prevents property damage during extreme weather events.
Mangroves are also excellent at capturing and storing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. These trees trap carbon in their roots and soil, reducing the amount of greenhouse gasses responsible for global warming. With these benefits in mind, SVC invested in mangrove restoration to not only improve the resilience of our coastal areas but also make a powerful impact in our fight against climate change.
The SOAR Club is an exclusive company-subsidized club of 20 SVC employees who share a love and passion for the great outdoors. Ulap in Itogon, Benguet, and explored several known trails in Cebu.
