Working in the BPO industry has its unique health challenges. Irregular night shifts and rotating schedules make it all too easy to let healthy habits slip. But it doesn't have to be that way.

In observance of World Health Day, Select VoiceCom (SVC) spotlights two employees who prove that a BPO career is no barrier to a fit and active life. They share how personal motivation and a strong sense of community keep them committed to a healthier lifestyle.

Joshua Abellana: Staying Active Through Pickleball and Fitness

For Joshua Abellana, an active lifestyle is non-negotiable. Balancing work responsibilities with personal health goals requires discipline, but Joshua believes the effort is worth it.

"I take my health seriously by managing work stress, eating nutritious foods, maintaining a positive mindset, and surrounding myself with genuine people," he shared.

Joshua regularly stays active by going to the gym and playing pickleball with friends, doing so four to five times a week. This routine helps him maintain both physical strength and mental clarity.

When coworkers launched the SVC Pickleball Club, Joshua was among the first to sign up, finding the supportive community made it easier to stay committed.

"The laughter and fun of playing with others help me stay consistent," he said. "Being part of the club motivates all of us to keep moving."

Ivanna N. Tiu: Finding Strength Through Movement and Community

Ivanna Tiu, a Patient Care Coordinator, wasn't always the picture of an active lifestyle. The change came gradually through regular exercise and a commitment to healthier habits.

"I make time for exercise or any physical activity that allows my body to move and sweat," she shared.

Before her transformation, Ivanna described herself as a self-proclaimed couch potato with an unhealthy diet. She eventually discovered the benefits of staying active and began exploring a variety of activities, including road and trail running, mountain climbing, wall climbing, kayaking, and Zumba.

Today, Ivanna maintains a weekly workout routine and participates in outdoor activities whenever possible. The goal of maintaining a healthy mind and body keeps her motivated and consistent.

The results have been transformative. Staying active has boosted her energy, improved her sleep, strengthened her heart, and built her endurance and immunity.

Ivanna also participates in Zwaggers Groove, one of SVC's wellness-oriented employee clubs, where members regularly come together to do Zumba.

"Performing these activities with others who share the same enthusiasm helps me stay committed," she said.

A Workplace That Supports Wellness

For Ivanna, a supportive workplace makes all the difference in sustaining healthy habits.

"SVC provides a space for individuals to share health goals and support each other in making simple, long-lasting lifestyle changes," she explained.

Through fitness clubs and wellness incentives, SVC's people-first culture empowers employees to stay active and engaged.

"Working in a company that supports wellness is important," Ivanna added. "It promotes productivity, builds a sound mind and body, and helps employees perform at their best."

Prioritising Health in the BPO Industry

True health goes beyond treatment. It's about prevention, awareness, and the daily choices we make. As the BPO industry continues to grow, more professionals are recognising that making time for physical activity and mental well-being isn't a luxury; it's a necessity.

Joshua and Ivanna are proof that even in a challenging environment, health never has to take a back seat. With the right support, discipline, and community behind you, a balanced lifestyle and a thriving career can go hand in hand.

At Select VoiceCom, we believe a successful career should support a healthy and balanced life. Through wellness programmes, employee-led fitness clubs, and a supportive workplace culture, we encourage our teams to grow both professionally and personally.
