At exactly 5AM on a Friday, while most of Cebu was still stretching into the day, the 10th floor lobby of Select VoiceCom (SVC) was already alive with the aroma of deep-fried ngohiong and tempura.

Dubbed FriYay, this pre-Holy Week food fest treated employees to a morning celebration of local flavor—starring the unbeatable trio of ngohiong (all-vegetarian), tempura, and kakanin. It was a simple, satisfying spread that celebrated Cebu’s culinary roots while giving the SVC workforce a much-needed pause to savor something familiar and comforting.

Served with Heart

Ngohiong Express brought Cebuano staples straight to the workplace. No frills, no fanfare—just thoughtfully prepared food with a lot of heart behind it.

Ngohiong—a beloved street food wrapped in delicate bean curd skin and packed with aromatic flavor—was the clear headliner. Accompanied by golden tempura and an array of vibrant kakanin, the spread had employees lining up.

“Aromatic and inviting with a scent that’s just as delightful as its flavor,” one team lead said. “This dish offers a perfectly balanced taste that’s neither too salty nor too bland, making every bite a harmonious and satisfying experience.”

More Than a Meal

The FriYay initiative was more than just an early breakfast. It was SVC’s way of recognizing the everyday hustle of its team, especially during a season of reflection. In honoring Holy Week traditions with a uniquely Cebuano twist, the company created space for community, connection, and comfort.

“This food, a filling and satisfying comfort food that’s a go-to favorite in Cebu, is loved for its warm and hearty flavor—best enjoyed hot, with a sauce that enhances every bite and leaves you craving more, even when you’re already full,” shared one of the organizers.

Employees were encouraged to slow down, enjoy the moment, and reconnect—not only with their coworkers but also with their roots.

Our Commitment

SVC’s commitment to building a people-first culture where employees feel seen, supported, and celebrated. The focus isn’t just on performance—it’s on the people behind the metrics.

With no registration required and no cost to join, the event was accessible to all employees on-site, offering a shared moment of joy and gratitude at the end of a busy week.

Final Bite

A warm meal, thoughtfully shared, can go a long way. SVC’s FriYay celebration may have started early, but it left a lasting impression—a reminder that in this workplace, people come first, and culture is served daily.

Inspired by the vibe? If you're looking for a workplace that values heart as much as hustle, you just might find your place here.
