Two years ago, Christian Lahaylahay found himself at a turning point.
Between work, family responsibilities, and unhealthy coping habits, his health had taken a serious hit. Weighing over 120 kilograms, he realized something had to change. What followed was a transformation he never imagined was within reach.
A Wake-Up Call to Change
Christian admits that his lifestyle was once far from healthy. Stress, unhealthy diet, and a lack of physical activity slowly took their toll.
"I often overeat to cope with stress and cravings," Christian recalled. "I didn't maintain a proper diet or exercise routine. Much of my free time was spent vaping and scrolling through my phone."
Working the graveyard shift while fulfilling his roles as a husband and father made it even more challenging to prioritize health. Still, Christian knew he needed to take control of his routine, not just for himself, but for the people who depended on him.
Turning Activity Into a Habit
The turning point came when Christian began focusing on proper time management and intentionally carving out time for his health. He returned to activities he enjoyed, particularly basketball, and later added running to his routine.
Today, Christian runs three to four times a week, mixing easy runs, speed training, and long-distance sessions. He also plays basketball regularly, keeping his schedule active while maintaining balance with work and family life.
"What keeps me consistent is my commitment to never go back to my old lifestyle," he shared. "I want to stay healthy for my family so I can spend more time with them."
The Power of Community
Christian's journey also found support within the SVC community. In 2024, he joined the company's basketball club during the SVC summer league after hearing they were looking for players.
"At that time, I weighed over 120 kilograms and was out of shape," he said. "But I wanted to stay active and play basketball again."
Being surrounded by teammates with similar goals created a strong sense of accountability.
"Knowing that others expected me to show up helped me stay disciplined," Christian explained. "The regular trainings and weekend games turned what started as a simple desire to play basketball into a consistent habit."
SVC supports these activities by providing resources for weekly games and encouraging employees to participate in wellness-focused programs. For Christian, this environment played a key role in maintaining momentum.
A Transportation That Inspired a Family
Through persistence and consistency, Christian achieved a remarkable transformation, losing over 40 kilograms.
Beyond physical changes, the benefits extended into daily life. He now has greater endurance, higher energy levels, and improved overall well-being.
Even more meaningful is the impact on his family.
"My lifestyle change inspired my wife and children to get involved in sports," Christian shared. "We now spend more productive and quality time together as a family."
A Workplace That Encourages Wellness
For Christian, working in a company that supports wellness is essential.
"Being in a workplace that promotes wellness helps me stay disciplined, manage stress, and continue improving," he said. "It also shows that the company genuinely cares about its people."
