For most Filipinos, July 4 is just another day.
For those in the BPO industry, however, it's a familiar date on the calendar.
Every year, millions of Americans celebrate Independence Day—the biggest milestone in their country's history.
Since many Philippine call centers work with US businesses and customers, this holiday has also become part of the industry's celebration.
At Select VoiceCom, this year's Fourth of July was a chance to make that connection feel even more personal. On Friday, employees started the celebration with "The Search for Freedom," a company-wide scavenger hunt. Independence Day-themed letters and symbols were hidden around the 7th and 10th floor offices.
The activity brought everyone together for some fun and a chance to learn more about one of America's biggest holidays. Winners enjoyed Jollibee meal vouchers as a reward for their enthusiasm.
As one SVC employee shared:
"In a way, the Fourth of July has become special for us too. It's one of the few days where we get to celebrate alongside our clients while learning more about their culture."
Even if the meaning is different, this occasion reminds us of the strong partnership between two nations that have worked together for decades and shared many opportunities.
A Quick Look Back at July 4th
The celebration dates back to 1776, when the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence and announced the American colonies' break from British rule.
Independence took years of fighting and was only made official with a treaty in 1783. Almost 250 years later, Americans still celebrate with fireworks and gatherings that reflect the original spirit of a nation choosing its own future.

A Shared Celebration
Events like this are less about the history lesson and more about the moment. It's a reminder that even on a workday tied to another country's calendar, there's always room for a little fun.
Congratulations to everyone who found their piece of freedom.
