In 2020, Filipinos' English proficiency declined, dropping seven spots in the global proficiency index compared to the previous year. The Philippines was out of the world's Top 20. Still, we managed to be Asia's No. 2. Seeing this change in our proficiency ranking, Select VoiceCom took it as an opportunity to improve our English competency.
On May 8, 2023, the company initiated Project 15: Effective Communication in partnership with the Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation (CCEF) and former SVC trainer DeeDee Villegas. They gave a thought-provoking talk about effective communication to senior high students at Sta. Cruz Learning Center in Catarman, Liloan, Cebu.
The students actively participated in this insightful pep talk, where they learned that effective dialog is the foundation for positive change.
Engaging the Youth, Empowering the Next Generation
Take a moment and imagine if we didn’t know how to express ourselves. It would be hard for us to get to know and understand each other. And if we won’t be able to build relationships with one another, there won’t be a sense of community. That’s why we must learn how to communicate effectively to create a positive and harmonious environment. SVC emphasized this in Project 15: Effective Communication.
SVC initiated this program to help senior high students improve their communication skills. It was more than just a lecture; it was an interactive workshop where these young individuals learned how to express themselves and interact with each other in a way that could be better understood. As they mastered relaying their messages to different people, they became effective communicators with the power to make a positive difference in their communities.
DeeDee Villegas, A Communication Maverick
DeeDee is one of the prides of Select VoiceCom. Once a trainer in the company, she is now seen by many as an ambassador of self-expression, inked by passion and shaped by real-life experiences. One glance at her, you can tell that she’s truly different—her beautifully inked body and the unique image she portrays on her social media platforms.
But the most amazing thing about DeeDee is that she uses her voice to empower others, just like what she did during SVC’s Project 15 event. Her words may only have echoed in the premises of Sta. Cruz Learning Center, but they were enough to mold the students into effective communicators of the next generation.
