Each year, millions set New Year's resolutions, yet most give up by mid-January. At Select VoiceCom (SVC), however, the aim wasn't simply to make resolutions, but to transform them into lasting routines.
On January 19, SVC introduced Stride Season 1, a seven-day step challenge designed to inspire movement, consistency, and balance among employees. The challenge represented the company's initial stride toward a healthier, more active year.
Turning Wellness Into a Shared Effort
Over just 7 days, SVC employees logged an impressive 8,370,662 steps, moving the company closer to its goal of 20 million steps. Every walk and extra step contributed to a shared milestone, demonstrating that wellness thrives when it's a collective effort.
Stride was intentionally designed to fit real schedules. Employees could participate at their own pace, on their own time, reinforcing SVC's belief that wellness should support work-life balance and not compete with it.
While the challenge featured competition, its primary focus remained on consistency. Showing up every day, regardless of the distance, mattered more than the leaderboard rankings.
This approach reflects SVC's core values of steady effort and sustainable performance. By supporting employees in developing healthy habits, SVC enables them to remain engaged, focused, and energised both at work and beyond.
Consistency That Set the Pace
Out of a hundred of participants, one Strider stood out for his unwavering consistency and determination.
Mark Jefferson Rupa emerged as the champion, completing a remarkable 439,788 steps over seven days. His journey covered 240.1 kilometers with 3,433 meters of elevation gain, earning him the top prize of ₱10,000. More than the numbers, his performance reflected the discipline and mindset that Stride was designed to promote.
"This wasn't just about counting steps," Mark shared. "It was about consistency, having the right mindset, and doing what's good for your health."
When asked for advice to colleagues considering the next season, he offered a simple reminder:
"Don't lose hope. Instead of saying 'one day,' make it day one."
Close behind was Martin Tambien Jr., who claimed first runner-up and received ₱5,000 for his steady performance throughout the challenge. For Martin, the 7-day steps challenge highlighted how SVC actively supports employee wellness.
"SVC did a great job promoting this activity," he said. "It really helps, especially for people dealing with health concerns, to stay active and move more."
Securing second runner-up was Rojel Lunzaga, who took home ₱3,000 after maintaining consistent momentum during the week. When asked what kept him motivated, his answer was simple and personal.
"My wife and kids," Rojel shared. "They supported me all the way through."
In addition to the main leaderboard, Stride also featured mini challenges, including Fastest 5KM in a Day, Highest Elevation Gain, and Most Scenic Route Photo. Winners of these categories received corresponding prizes, which added an extra layer of fun while encouraging creativity and personal milestones.
More importantly, Stride underscored the power of collective effort. Nadere Pantinople, who finished among the top 20, reflected on what it meant to contribute to a shared company-wide goal.
"It's amazing to reach a milestone like this as a group," Nadere said. "We never expected the top three to achieve those numbers. Reaching over 300,000 steps is a big accomplishment. On our end, we just kept showing up and did our best to participate in the challenge."
Stride's true success, however, went beyond the leaderboard. From top finishers to every participant who stayed active throughout the week, the challenge showed what's possible when wellness becomes part of everyday life.
